Hinges

The entire function of a door relies on the quality and correct specification of the hinges. Hinges connect two things together, bearing the weight from one to the other about a fixed axis of rotation allowing it to open and close easily. They are found on virtually all doors in a home, mains doors, and commercial buildings. There are a large variety of hinge types and sizes available depending on the type of application required. Failure of the hinges and/or incorrect specification can have significant consequences for the lifespan of doors, including safety critical fire doors, within the buildings they protect.         A ball bearing hinge has ball bearings in the knuckle of the hinge to reduce friction and create a permanently lubricated surface area. This makes opening and closing a door consistently easier, smoother and quieter, plus it helps the door to swing smoothly with less force required. Most internal doors will require two hinges to function. For doors with added security requirements and/or containing door closers, three hinges will be required to help prevent forced entry.
