As Markus put it, "governance is absolutely crucial" in a process integration. The project had “very strong governance" because a steering committee consisting of senior managers from both sides was established early on.

The acquisition had dedicated Integration manager in place to coordinate the many moving parts of the merger, including human resources, information technology, marketing, sales, cross-selling, research and development, production, and legal and financial matters. The integration process was also informed by cultural studies done to ensure that employee input was taken into account.

“What we wanted to do and what we did in this integration journey is we tried to get the best out of both,” Markus explained when presenting to investors and analysts at the recent Capital Markets Day.
