Preserving heritage with modern security

The Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) has stood at the heart of Dresden’s religious and civic life for centuries. A church dedicated to Our Lady was first built on the site in the 11th century, outside the medieval city walls. In the 18th century, the original structure was replaced by a new Baroque church, known as the Steinerne Glocke, or “Stone Bell,” The dome was an engineering achievement of its time and dominated Dresden’s skyline for more than two centuries.

The Frauenkirche was destroyed during the bombing of Dresden in World War II and was reconstructed in the early 2000s. Today it stands as both a historic monument and a symbol of resilience, reconciliation, and continuity.

The Frauenkirche needed a set of modern security access solutions without compromising architectural integrity. ASSA ABLOY worked closely with the Frauenkirche’s security partner to provide the eCLIQ digital locking system with smart keys from the IKON brand.

The electronic system allows access rights to be programmed and updated as needed, simplifying key management across different user groups. Lost keys can be quickly deactivated, reducing security risks without requiring physical changes to the building.
