Madrid's hospital improves patient care with automatic door upgrade

Madrid's 12 de Octubre Hospital

In a move to enhance patient flow, hygiene, and sustainability, Madrid's 12 de Octubre Hospital has opted for a major upgrade with 445 automatic doors from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems.

This development marks a major transformation from the old building, which has just over 20 automatic doors. Juan Bautista Godoy Prieto, the Chief Engineer of the Engineering and Maintenance Service at the hospital, noted that this upgrade addresses critical needs including safety, durability, and energy efficiency, reflecting the hospital's commitment to advanced healthcare infrastructure.

“During the reconstruction of the 12 de Octubre Hospital, we knew automatic doors would be critical in solving essential requirements,” he added. “We chose SL500 sliding doors and SW300 swing doors. Our first goal was hygiene, especially in important areas such as operating rooms and intensive care units. For these areas, we installed airtight doors. In addition to airtightness, these doors also help improve energy efficiency, a key aspect of our sustainability efforts.”

The hospital’s decision to partner with ASSA ABLOY was influenced by their prior positive experiences with our products. "Given that more than 90% of the hospital’s current automatic doors are sourced from ASSA ABLOY, we have personal experience confirming that their products work well and are dependable. Additionally, we appreciate ASSA ABLOY’s quick and efficient supply and installation processes, along with their strong technical support," Juan said.

Sustainability played a key role in the decision-making process, with the hospital setting ambitious goals in line with new industry standards. "Sustainability used to be an added bonus, but it is now a requirement," explained Juan. “To achieve these goals, we rely on our partners to have building materials that are sustainable. Automatic doors play an important role in this context since they must be both durable and environmentally friendly.”
