ASSA ABLOY’s solar power expands across global operations
In line with our Science Based Targets and commitment to a sustainable future, we are enhancing efforts to ensure that our operations are environmentally responsible. A big part of this effort involves generating our own renewable energy through onsite solar panels.
Solar power plays an important role in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and cutting energy costs. By generating clean energy onsite, we decrease our exposure to fluctuating market energy prices, reducing both costs and risk. This also enhances our energy independence and guarantees a stable supply, particularly for our strategic locations.
In 2023, we expanded solar installations to key sites, including HID’s operations in Malaysia, Global Solutions’ plant in Shanghai, and our facilities in Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Berlin, Connecticut, USA. These expand on the successes of previous installations at sites across Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, and Turkey, with ongoing projects in Dubai and future installations planned for Germany, Poland and South Africa.
Each solar installation covers up to 12 percent of the site’s electricity needs, generating as much as 900 MWh of electricity annually and reducing CO2e emissions by up to 980 tons. This helps us to significantly reduce our Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
The solar panel installations are just part of the ongoing sustainable transformation of our production facilities to make our sites efficient, environmentally friendly, and attractive to our people and our customers.
