ABLOY’s smart access solution supports cleaner cities in Croatia
ABLOY PROTEC² CLIQ, is helping Croatian cities reduce waste, improve recycling habits, and manage access to public containers more efficiently.
Eol-Ekos, a leading provider of urban waste management in Croatia, turned to Abloy to transform waste management in 15 Croatian cities using advanced access control and real-time data.
The PROTEC² CLIQ system is used on Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) containers, which encourage residents to recycle more and generate less waste. More than 21,000 people interact with the system daily. Every use is tracked, giving municipalities a full audit record and better visibility into container usage.
For city leaders, the benefits are clear: no complex wiring, lower maintenance costs, and simpler access management. The solution integrates directly with Eol-Ekos’s system, reducing landfill trips and supporting long-term sustainability goals.
Today, more than 500 containers in Croatia are equipped with PROTEC² CLIQ. With 1,000 more planned over the next two years, the system is scaling in use and helping cities prepare for a cleaner future.
