BIM software suite awarded as winner in the category of Best in Innovation and Convergence of Software and Solutions ASSA ABLOY Openings Studio and ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions (DSS) were recently recognized as a winner in the category of Best in Innovation and Convergence of Software and Solutions with its new Access Control Security Elevations at Security Industry Association (SIA) New Product Showcase. Openings Studio Security replaces the outdated 2D process of creating electrical line drawings and elevations for access controlled doors and security devices. “It is a new 3D method of generating access control product applications and drawings,” said Thomas Lewis, Vice President of Architectural Services and Business Development for ASSA ABLOY DSS. “We wanted an easy way for security consultants and electrical engineers to participate in the building information modeling process. They can create drawings, add annotations and tag floor plans in a building information modeling 3D software environment.” Repetitive work is eliminated through the automation of electrical security elevation drawings. The ability to generate 3D BIMs of access control openings with connections to security devices and interfaces currently doesn’t exist in the market. “Users of Openings Studio Security will have the ability to easily export door and hardware models to Autodesk® Revit® and automatically generate sheet views,” said Lewis. “This will be a game changer for security consultants and engineers.” Users can easily place and move access control models and security devices, draw connections for source and low voltage power, cabling, and WiFi, and create and modify tags and key notes for all of the different components in an elevation drawing. Drawings, which are created as complete 3D assemblies, can be extracted as deliverables in the form of PDFs, DWGs, and Autodesk Revit files with pre-built sheets – even if the consultant is not a Revit user.
