How do electronic locking systems work?

How do electronic locking systems work?

With an electronic locking system, you can manage access rights centrally via software. You determine who is allowed to open which door and when – precisely controlled, location-independent, and accurate to the minute. When inserted, the key communicates directly with the electronic locking cylinder. If the stored authorizations match, the cylinder grants access. Communication is encrypted and reliably protects against tampering.

Electronic locking systems are more flexible than mechanical locking systems. If a key is lost, simply block it in the management software – there’s no need to replace the cylinder. Thanks to digital management, those responsible can adapt access authorizations specifically to building structures, organizational models, or security levels.

One major advantage: the electronic solutions KESO eCLIQ and KESO CLIQ Go do not require a power supply on the door. The energy is supplied by the key – which makes installation easier and is particularly suitable for retrofitting.

Special feature: mechatronic locking systems

Mechatronic locking solutions such as KESO Integra combine mechanical security with electronic access control. This allows you to expand specific existing systems – ideal if you want to convert individual areas to an electronic system first.

Which locking system for your building?

Not sure which solution best suits your needs? We will advise you personally and work with you to find the right locking system – whether electronic, mechatronic, or mechanical.

KESO eCLIQ from ASSA ABLOY: the intelligent electronic locking solution

KESO eCLIQ is the modular solution for professional electronic locking – ideal for complex building requirements. The system combines flexible access management with low-maintenance technology and is one of the most established solutions for electronic locking systems in Switzerland.

  • Locking cylinders

KESO eCLIQ cylinders are available in numerous designs, such as profile cylinders, round cylinders, or locking lever cylinders. They do not require wiring or batteries, as the energy is supplied via the key. This makes installation easier – even when retrofitting.

  • Keys

The eCLIQ keys contain a lithium button cell battery for the power supply and store individual access rights. They are robust, designed for daily use, and can be quickly reprogrammed when needed.

  • Hardware

Stationary or mobile programming devices allow you to quickly set up keys and cylinders or change authorizations – whether directly at the workstation or on site in the property. All devices are specially designed for the KESO eCLIQ locking system.

  • Software

Two software solutions are available for clear, role-based management of all components: the CLIQ Local Manager for on-site use and the CLIQ Web Manager for Internet-based control for large systems.

KESO Integra: mechatronic access solution for maximum flexibility

The mechatronic access solution KESO Integra combines modern RFID technology with mechanical security. The system is suitable for both new buildings and specific expansions in existing buildings. Thanks to the modular design, you can configure KESO Integra individually and manage it centrally – with just one software for all components.

Management takes place via the k-entry management software that combines mechanical, mechatronic, and digital components within one interface. You can assign access rights selectively, limit them in terms of time, or block them centrally. AES 128-bit encryption ensures a particularly high level of security.

Your advantages with KESO Integra:

  • Mechatronic system with dual RFID technology
  • Flexible scalability – can be networked as stand alone, offline (NOK+), and online
  • Central management via the k-entry software with building plan view
  • Retrofittable – easy integration into existing mechanical locking systems
  • High level of security thanks to patented actuator technology and tamper protection
  • Fast installation with contact-based cylinders and USB programming
  • Event logging for up to 3,000 access events in stand-alone mode
  • Ready for use even in the event of a power failure – thanks to battery-operated components

KESO Integra is suitable for companies, public administration, and institutions that value flexibility, investment security, and easy management – without compromising on security.

For which areas are electronic locking systems suitable?

Electronic locking systems are used wherever security needs to be flexible – whether you want to manage a school, look after a residential complex, or secure production areas. With KESO eCLIQ, you retain control of all access points at all times – simple, reliable, and centrally managed.

  • Multi-residential

In residential complexes, you benefit from central, digital access control: with KESO eCLIQ, you can assign individual access rights for residents, cleaning staff, or maintenance services – without a physical key handover. Access rights can also be adjusted with just a few clicks when a tenant changes.

  • Public administration

An electronic locking solution is particularly worthwhile for public buildings with changing user groups and sensitive areas. You define access rights for individuals or entire teams – centrally, clearly, and in compliance with data protection regulations.

  • Industry

Production facilities, research laboratories, or IT rooms need to be reliably protected – often under challenging conditions. KESO eCLIQ is robust, weather-resistant, and allows clear separation of access according to tasks, areas, or working hours.

  • Education

In schools, universities, or training centers, access requirements are constantly changing. With KESO eCLIQ, you determine who is allowed to enter which rooms and when – clearly separated by teachers, administration, cleaning staff, or external groups.

  • Healthcare

Whether in a hospital or nursing home – where sensitive areas such as medicine storage rooms or isolation wards need to be secured, every access control measure counts. Electronic locking systems help you to clearly define responsibilities and document all access in a way that is traceable.

  • Preschools & daycare centers

For preschools and daycare centers, safety comes first. Electronic locking systems ensure that only authorized persons are granted access. At the same time, you prevent children from leaving the building unattended – without complex key organization.
