The term “Golden Thread” emerged from Dame Judith Hackitt’s landmark report Building a Safer Future, following the tragic Grenfell Tower fire. It called for a radical shift in how safety-critical information is managed across a building’s lifecycle.
In response, the UK Building Safety Act (2022) now requires that accurate, up-to-date, and accessible digital records are maintained for all higher-risk buildings—starting from design and continuing through construction and occupation.
This isn’t just red tape. It’s a cultural and practical shift designed to ensure that the right people have the right information at the right time.
