Australian Wool Exchange uses HID’s RFID to improve traceability
With HID’s RFID tags, tracing each wool bale in the Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) has become a lot simpler.
The RFID tags are attached to each wool bale and contain a unique identifier that can be read by RFID readers. The readers are located at key points in the supply chain, such as wool stores, ports, and processing facilities. When a bale is scanned, the RFID reader sends the identifier to a central database, which tracks the bale's location and movement.
The RFID system has several benefits over the previous paper-based system. It is more accurate, as the RFID tags cannot be lost or damaged. It is also more efficient, as the RFID readers can scan multiple bales at once. Additionally, the RFID system can be used to track wool bales in real time, which can help to prevent theft and biosecurity risks.
The RFID system is already being used by some wool brokers and exporters in Australia. As of July 2023, all wool packs imported into Australia will contain an eBale tag.
The implementation of the RFID system is a major step forward for the Australian wool industry. It will help to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and security of the supply chain, and it will ultimately benefit wool growers, processors, and consumers.
