Challenge

The municipality of Churwalden has around 2,200 inhabitants and is particularly well-known for its regional specialties and wide range of tourist attractions. The replacement of the locking system in the Churwalden Town Hall and soon also in all of the municipality’s properties and infrastructures involved several demanding requirements. On the one hand, the new system had to offer a high degree of flexibility to meet the different usage and access requirements of all the areas. On the other hand, a consistent and clearly structured locking system was needed that reliably connects all building parts with each other. Added to this are the special conditions in the Alpine region, which made it difficult to coordinate the trades involved as well as the implementation on site. There was also a request for a solution that would allow all relevant access points to be operated with a single key to make operations more efficient and user-friendly.

Solution

Conceptually, this stage was part of a larger project in which the town hall served as the first step in the comprehensive modernization of the entire locking infrastructure. The chosen solution, consisting of the KESO eCLIQ electronic locking system in combination with the CLIQ Web Manager, met the functional requirements as well as laid the foundation for long-term scalable, digitally controlled access management. This enabled the municipality to reach an important milestone in the implementation of its overall project and at the same time create a future-proof foundation for additional buildings.

The decisive factor in the selection of the system was the fact that the municipality previously had to manage several different locking systems. The administrative expense of maintaining and losing keys increased the desire for an electronic access solution. Access rights can be adjusted digitally at any time and lost keys can be deactivated immediately. In addition, the system can be easily retrofitted without wiring, and thanks to robust, durable components, it works reliably even under demanding conditions, such as in infrastructure facilities in alpine terrain. The system is managed via the CLIQ Web Manager, which enables location-independent administration.

180 cylinders and 80 keys are currently in use. Further projects with the municipality are already being planned, and the final expansion will include almost 700 cylinders and several hundred keys.
