The global leader in access solutions, ASSA ABLOY is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel for its office in Plano, Texas. ASSA ABLOY employs around 65,000 people globally and generates approximately USD 14 billion in revenue, providing doors, locks, and access control technologies that enable secure and convenient movement through buildings and spaces worldwide. ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions is a division focused on advanced access management, delivering end-to-end solutions that combine hardware, software, and services across industries such as hospitality, marine, and critical infrastructure.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions. In this role, you will act as a trusted legal advisor to the business, supporting a dynamic and international organization across a broad range of commercial and strategic matters.

You will be part of the divisional legal team and work closely with senior stakeholders across business units and functions, primarily supporting the American market while collaborating with a global legal network. The position offers a broad and hands-on scope, combining day-to-day legal support with involvement in strategic initiatives, including M&A, compliance programs, and risk management.

This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of law and business, providing pragmatic, solution-oriented advice that enables business growth while safeguarding the company’s interests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide hands-on, day-to-day legal support to business units and functions across a wide range of commercial and operational matters
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad spectrum of agreements, including sales, distribution, service, licensing, procurement, and non-disclosure agreements
  • Act as a key advisor on regulatory and compliance topics, including data privacy, competition law, anti-corruption, export control, and intellectual property matters
  • Manage and coordinate litigation and pre-litigation matters, working closely with external counsel and internal stakeholders to define and execute effective legal strategies
  • Support the full lifecycle of M&A activities, including legal due diligence, structuring, drafting and negotiating transaction documentation, and post-closing integration
  • Drive and support the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and training programs to strengthen compliance and mitigate legal risk across the organization
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the business and proactively advise stakeholders on implications and required actions
  • Build strong relationships across the organization and serve as a trusted partner to commercial, operational, and functional teams

WHAT YOU BRING

Education & Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (required)
  • LL.M. in International Law, Corporate Law, or related field (preferred)
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Texas (required)
  • IAPP certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM) or equivalent privacy credentials (preferred)

Experience

  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience, combining both private practice (commercial law firm) and in-house legal roles within a global organization
  • Strong expertise in commercial law, including extensive experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts
  • Solid understanding of compliance frameworks and key regulatory areas such as data privacy and anti-corruption
  • Experience with dispute resolution and managing external counsel
  • Exposure to M&A processes, including due diligence and transaction execution, is highly valued

WHO YOU ARE

  • A pragmatic, business-oriented legal professional who focuses on enabling outcomes rather than identifying obstacles
  • A collaborative team player who builds trust across functions, geographies, and cultures
  • Able to balance legal risk with commercial priorities and make sound, well-judged decisions under pressure
  • Structured, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A strong communicator who can translate complex legal matters into clear, actionable advice
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior leadership
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
