Position Title: Design Engineer I – New Product Development

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 DOE
Position Summary
This position assists in the design, development and improvement of new or existing mechanical based product lines performing simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques. The Design Engineer will design components and simple assemblies with solid modeling, supports product applications, and make improvements to existing products. This position will be on a special team within engineering with a focus on new product development and strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop products from concept to production
- Evaluate products, parts, or processes for strength, cost efficiency and reliability as required
- Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams for product requirements
- Develop plans and prototypes, perform testing, analyze results, and make necessary improvements
- Create 3D models, assemblies, BOMs, and fully detailed drawings
- Investigate and recommend product improvements to products based on customers and sales feedback
- Coordinate product design introductions or changes with supply chain and manufacturing teams
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and on‑time engineering work to support department objectives.
- Ensure adequate and appropriate documentation is maintained for the engineering function.
- Ensure all products meet required industry standards.
- Perform limited domestic and international travel as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 0–3 years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D/2D modeling and basic drafting principles.
- Basic understanding of common manufacturing processes, including but not limited to injection molding, die casting, and stamping.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.
- Hands‑on mechanical aptitude with basic tools and measurement devices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize tasks.
- Technical writing skills for notes, reports, and documentation.
- Experience in the North American Fenestration industry preferred but not required.
Education & Certification
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
