Environmental priorities in the 2025 targets

The 2025 targets are building on the momentum and success of five-year programs since 2010; setting more ambitious targets across all indicators. The targets are connected to our environmental priorities, which are to:

  • reduce the Group’s carbon footprint
  • coordinate the implementation of environmental management systems
  • enhance data analysis and benchmarking
  • improve water and waste management
  • reduce energy consumption and increase the proportion of renewable energy
  • reduce organic solvents by half

You can read more about our targets in the Sustainability Report 2024.

The annual report includes ASSA ABLOY’s first Corporate Sustainability Report Directive (CSRD), one year ahead of the mandatory requirement. The CSRD report provides further details on ASSA ABLOY’s work on sustainability including key outcomes in 2024.

Stepping up our targets to tackle climate change

With a global footprint, we have a global responsibility to do the right thing and play our part to mitigate climate change. With nearly two centuries of expertise in access solutions, we know that if we want to be there for future generations, we need to act boldly now. And respecting our planet is also true to our purpose: helping people experience a safer and more open world.

We have always set ourselves ambitious goals. Our latest five-year plan, which runs to 2025, is our most ambitious program to date and we have committed to set targets in line with  the Science Based Targets and Initiative, in line with the Paris Agreement.

Driving Sustainability Across Our UKI Operations

We are proud to have committed to Science-Based Targets (SBTs) for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with a goal to reduce CO₂e emissions by 25% by 2025 a milestone we successfully reached ahead of schedule in 2024. Our current ambition is to achieve a 50% reduction by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, although we are actively exploring ways to accelerate this timeline. Across the UK and Ireland, each of our business units is making meaningful progress toward net zero through strategic investments in renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies. For example, our Lorient site in Devon now generates 60% of its energy needs through newly installed solar panels, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

At our Portobello site in Willenhall, we’ve introduced a smart Energy Management System (EMS) called FLOWBOX, alongside solar PV installations and upgrades such as replacing compressors with more efficient models. FLOWBOX enables real-time monitoring and control of energy use, helping us make data-driven decisions that enhance efficiency and reduce emissions. We’re also modernising equipment across our sites to eliminate energy-inefficient machinery, improving both performance and space utilisation.

Sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do. We’ve made significant progress on our journey to net zero, achieving key milestones ahead of schedule and implementing impactful changes across our sites. However, we recognise that there is still much more to be done. With continued investment, innovation, and collaboration, we are committed to pushing further and faster toward a more sustainable future.
