Entry Level PCBA Test Engineer

Sargent Manufacturing is a market leader in commercial door hardware. The company's customer base includes commercial construction, institutional and industrial markets. We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level PCBA Test Engineer to join our test engineering team. This role is perfect for recent graduates or early-career engineers who are passionate about electronics, troubleshooting, and ensuring product quality. You will support the development, execution, and maintenance of test procedures for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) used in our products.

 

 

This position will sit onsite in New Haven, CT fulltime reporting into the Profit Center Manager, PCBA.

 

What you will be doing 

 

  • Assist in designing, developing, and documenting functional, in-circuit (ICT) programs for new and existing PCBAs.
  • Perform debug and root-cause analysis of test failures using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other lab instruments.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production teams to improve test coverage, yield, and throughput.
  • Support the creation and updating of test fixtures, including mechanical and pneumatic designs.
  • Analyze test data, generate reports, and recommend process improvements to reduce false failures and escapes.
  • Participate in Design for Test (DFT) reviews during new product introduction (NPI).
  • Follow ESD protocols and maintain a clean, organized test environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma projects).

 

What we are looking for

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (graduated within the last 2 years preferred).
  • Fundamental understanding of analog and digital circuits, schematic reading, and PCBA layout.
  • Basic hands-on experience with lab equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies, etc.) from coursework or internships.
  • Familiarity with test methodologies: ICT & functional test
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

 

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with test development software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, C/C++, Visual Basic).
  • Knowledge of IPC standards, ESD control, and quality systems (ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Previous internship or co-op in PCBA manufacturing or test engineering.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis tools (Excel, Minitab, JMP).
