New solution in the MSL FlipLock family from ASSA ABLOY: e-check and d-check simplify door planning
With FlipLock e-check and d-check, the Swiss brand MSL from ASSA ABLOY is launching an extension of the FlipLock lock family. The new motorised locks are equipped with a newly developed control board and combine numerous functions and adjustment options directly in the lock. This means that around 90 percent of the typical requirements in construction projects can be covered. This creates an efficient and practical alternative to previous solutions for specialist planners and users.
Greater flexibility and more functions directly in the lock
Today, doors are much more than simple components. In addition to the mechanical locking process, sensors, control and interfaces to access control, burglar alarm systems or building automation must also be taken into account, especially in new construction projects for security-critical or heavily frequented properties. Often, the exact specifications are only clarified during the implementation phase, which often leads to reworking - for example, to create space for additional controls in the door box. This is precisely where FlipLock e-check and d-check come in. The first is a handle-controlled motorised lock; the d-check variant is a motorised opening lock. Both combine a variety of functions and adjustment options in one housing, which previously required external components. The new locks therefore offer a cost-effective solution that is also space-saving and simplifies planning. This is made possible by the newly designed main circuit board with two monitoring contacts, which can be read out directly via the lock. The open time as well as the actuation of the door drive or contact debounce times for the bolt and handle contact can also be individually adjusted. The configuration of the lock functions is particularly convenient and secure via the two integrated rotary switches: The first switch can be used to select the desired function, and the second switch can be used to select the corresponding values. A switchable acoustic signal has also been added to provide the user with feedback on the current status.
Comfort and safety for users
Users also benefit from the new solution. Functions such as the integrated tamper protection prevent a door from being left ajar unsecured via motorised bolt retraction. This prevents damage to the frame and effectively prevents unauthorised persons from sneaking in unnoticed. This is complemented by acoustic signals that reliably indicate whether a door is unlocked or locked, as well as the convenience function of complete opening when the handle is actuated, which was previously only available in FlipLock access and e-access locks. In addition, data on motorcycles can be read directly from the lock, which facilitates maintenance and provides transparency over the product lifecycle. FlipLock e-check and d-check thus combine practical technology with added security and convenience.
Positioning within the FlipLock family
The introduction of e-check and d-check expands the existing FlipLock portfolio in a targeted way with a solution that opens up new possibilities. While FlipLock access und e-access remain the first choice when more than two monitoring contacts or particularly complex scenarios need to be considered, FlipLock e-check and d-check cover the vast majority of everyday requirements. Mechanically, it is identical to the previous variants and fits seamlessly into the product range. Thanks to the extended configuration options, numerous functions can be covered directly in the lock. This means that specialist planners benefit from significantly less coordination effort, and users get lock technology that is as convenient as it is secure.
The key advantages at a glance:
- Integrated tamper protection: Detects when the self-locking has been tampered with and automatically retracts the bolt by motor. It prevents damage to the frame and prevents the door from being left open unsecured. After 15 seconds, the function is automatically deactivated to avoid creating an additional vulnerability in the event of forced opening or tampering with the control latch.
- Complete opening with trigger actuated: If the outside handle is already actuated during identification with a badge, the lock automatically retracts the bolt completely - it is not necessary to press it down again.
- Directly configurable monitoring contacts: Two contacts can be evaluated without external control. The selection is made conveniently via two rotary switches, which are used to select functions and assign suitable values.
- Flexible factory settings and adjustments: By default, the panic handle and bolt contact are active. These can be changed at any time using the switches and additional combinations can be set - with acoustic feedback to confirm successful entry.
- Configurable open time: Factory set to 2.5 seconds, open time can be individually extended to up to 10 seconds. The adjustment can be made in half-second steps to consider spatial conditions such as the distance to the badge reader.
- Actuation of the door drive: The lock transmits precise signals to motorised door drives, coordinated with the selected open time.
- Integrated acoustic signals: Optionally, two different melodies can be selected as acoustic status messages for locking and unlocking.
- Configurable panic handle and bolt contact with release delay: Contact debounce times can be adjusted to prevent false alarms and ensure reliable interaction with burglar alarm systems or access control systems.
- Optional motorised key support: Makes opening from the outside with a key easier, as the motor assists the turning movement if required.
- Comprehensive readout functions: Various data queries such as the number of door cycles and motor cycles can now be read out directly at the lock.
- Reboot function: If required, the lock can be reset to the factory settings.
