Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of product development engineers, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting and conducting technical analysis of HID and competitor PACS (Physical Access Control Systems) products. This analysis will span a variety of areas, including packaging and accessories, as well as detailed teardown of products down to the circuit board and individual components, to document comparative technical data.
The primary goal of this role is to understand how both internal and external solutions implement standard and innovative features. The candidate will document these findings to inform the development of improvements or entirely new innovations for current and next-generation RFID readers and PACS controller products.
The ideal candidate will be organized and capable of managing their time effectively. Strong collaboration skills are also desirable. Occasional travel may be required.

Essential Duties
- Assist in User and Technical analysis of New and Legacy PACS.
- Perform comparative competitor analysis for RFID Readers and Controllers (PACS).
- Work with the engineering and marketing teams to assist them in understanding features and specifications of commercially available systems in order to improve feature definition of current and future products.
- Take part in investigations of customer installation issues relating to Physical Access Controllers and PACS RFID Readers by understanding user specific setups and applications.
- Document control using Agile lifecycle management.
- Observe and assist in customer issue resolution.
- Assist in Hardware NPI (New Product Introduction)
- Assist with Sustaining and VAVE (Value Add / Value Engineering) tasks – cost down investigations,
- Assist in testing alternative components for Contract Manufacture / Supply Chain.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree level in Engineering or related subject, 1- 2 years’ experience in Engineering design/test role.
- HND/HNC or BTEC level 4/5 with work experience, considered.
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications & standards.
Advantageous Experience
- Practical, hands-on approach.
- Good with Technical wiring & setup of electrical systems
- Some knowledge communications systems RS232 etc.
- Knowledge of Analog and Digital Electronics.
- Knowledge Wireless Interfaces (eg BLE, WiFi)
- Knowledge or microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi, Arduino and some basic programming skills.
- Interest in AI tools.
- Some knowledge of Document Control (e.g. Engineering change control).
- interest in CAD Tools (e.g. ORCAD, Fusion 360, etc). 3D Printing.
Work Requirements
- Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
- Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport.
