La Semaforica

La Semaforica is a historic Italian company operating in the sector of traffic regulation and management devices and systems. Located in the city of Padua, it was founded in 1945, at a particular moment in history when there was an urgent need to start regulating the flow of city traffic in the immediate post-war period.

Over the decades it has gained more and more experience and expertise, acquiring important quality certifications and focusing on the constant innovation of its products and services, becoming a leading company in its sector.

Their products include traffic light lanterns and regulators, traffic management and detection systems, information displays, light signals and environmental monitoring.

La Semaforica turned to ASSA ABLOY specifically for their traffic light controllers, to find a solution that would provide the right safety for the electronic component of the devices and make easy to manage their maintenance.

Key requirements:

• Effectively protect the electronic component of the traffic light controllers inside their box, so that only authorised staff could access them.
• Install mechanical cylinders that would work with the locks of the regulator doors, whose locking levers are not positioned in a standard way.
• Make it easy for service staff to maintain the individual regulators installed in the area without the need for a key for each individual device.

Solution

Together with the ASSA ABLOY Italy Sales team, La Semaforica has chosen ASSA ABLOY's CYS10 half cylinders with adjustable cam to be installed inside the locks of the traffic light controller boxes.

The CYS10 sawn-key cylinders have a 6-pin coding system and are certified according to EN 1303:2015. The keys are made of alpacca (a robust and durable material); they are patent-protected and duplicates can only be requested in authorised centers by presenting the ownership card.

The choice of half-cylinders with adjustable cams has made it possible to solve the problem of levers on door locks, by adjusting the cam in a variety of positions in relation to the axis of the cylinder.

To perfectly match La Semaforica's specific requirements, the half-cylinders installed on the regulator doors all have the same coding (KA cylinders), i.e. they can all be opened using the same key. In this way, all the members of the service staff are given a single key with which they can carry out their maintenance work on all the regulators assigned to them every day without having to carry countless keys or having to go to the company to retrieve a copy.

The agreement between ASSA ABLOY and La Semaforica provides for the supply of new half-cylinders over time for future controllers produced by the company.
