ASSA ABLOY's electromechanical locking system combines electrical control, automatic locking and panic function without the need for wiring on the door leaf.
A complete solution to combine convenience and safety
The MEDIATOR system is specifically designed to secure access doors in both residential and commercial buildings.
It consists of an automatically self-locking mortise lock, a linear electric strike and a power supply unit that keep the lock properly closed each time the door has been closed. This prevents access from the outside by unauthorised persons, but always allows those inside to leave in an emergency.
This feature makes MEDIATOR compatible with panic exit devices, allowing it to be used on doors that operate as emergency exits.
It adapts to different types of doors, such as narrow stile doors (where the door leaf consists of a frame and an internal insert made of glass or other material) or solid doors (where the leaf is made of a single piece).
Three different products, one system
The MEDIATOR system consists of three different components working together:
- Self-locking mortise lock
This is a latch and deadbolt device that locks automatically when the door closes after being opened. This reset is done mechanically, so the lock does not need to be wired.
It is prepared for use with a Euro-profile cylinder and it can be used with handles, knobs and panic bars.
It is available in two versions (single- or multi-point) and in two different models (for narow stile or solid doors). - Linear electric strike
Unlike conventional electric strikes, this model allows not only the latch, but also the deadbolt of the lock to be controlled, providing higher security. - 12 V DC power supply
This device is used to ensure the proper electric supply to the electric strike.
MEDIATOR product technical features
Here are the main features of the MEDIATOR lock and electric strike.
LOCK
- Latch with lock function: double-acting self-locking safety latch
- Continuous follower
- Control latch: necessary for the lock to automatically reset
- Self-locking lock bolt: security bolt with motorised release pin (present on the electric strike)
- Cylinder: the lock is prepared for the insertion of a Euro-profile cylinder for mechanical opening operations
ELECTRIC STRIKE
- Striking plate: available in different versions to suit different types of door profile (aluminium, wood, etc.)
- FaFix adjusting function: allows better management of preload
- Motorized lever: allows the door to be unlocked by remote control
Certifications
MEDIATOR devices also perform a panic function, i.e. they ensure that it is always possible to exit the building quickly and safely in an emergency by opening the door from the inside using the handle or the panic bar.
The MEDIATOR system can be used in conjunction with panic devices certified to EN 1125 and EN 179.
The electric strike is also certified according to EN 14846 for electrical and electronic devices used on electromechanical locks for entrance doors, interior doors and windows.
Low-energy solution
The MEDIATOR system also represents a less energy-consuming solution than other electromechanical locking mechanisms, such as electromagnets, that need to be constantly energised to keep the door closed.
The MEDIATOR electric strike only needs the electric impulse to release the lock bolt, significantly limiting energy absorption.
