Software Architect

Software Architect

Do you have the vision, technical depth, and architectural leadership needed to shape scalable, secure, next‑generation platforms? Join ASSA ABLOY’s Key and Asset Management business unit and help design the future of our intelligent key and asset management systems. You'll work in a collaborative environment that empowers you to build a career you can be proud of.

What you would do as our Software Architect

As a Software Architect, you will play a key role in defining the technical foundations of our global key and asset management platforms, designing modular and scalable architectures that work across hardware, cloud services, and user-facing applications. Reporting to the Lead Software Architect, you will help balance immediate delivery needs with long-term maintainability while exploring emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.

The role can be remote or hybrid within the UK, with regular collaboration with both our UK team and our east‑coast US development team.

You would also be responsible for:

  • Developing high‑level and detailed architectures for multi‑tenant SaaS and on‑premise systems, ensuring modularity, scalability, maintainability, and alignment with business requirements.
  • Defining service boundaries, APIs (REST, gRPC, message‑based) and technology choices to support seamless integration with hardware and third‑party systems, while ensuring compliance with critical non‑functional requirements such as security, performance, and resilience.
  • Investigating emerging technologies and design patterns, producing proofs‑of‑concept (POCs) to validate feasibility and guide the introduction of innovative capabilities into the platform.
  • Leading architectural reviews, coaching engineers, and maintaining up‑to‑date architectural standards, diagrams, and governance documentation to guide development teams and reduce architecture debt.
  • Collaborating closely with product owners, developers, QA, and SRE teams to translate business needs into robust technical designs, while providing hands‑on support on prototypes and complex engineering challenges.

The skills and experience you need

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has 3+ years of experience in software architecture or senior engineering roles, with a strong background in distributed systems, scalable applications, and cloud environments (Azure or AWS).
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of service‑based architectures (REST, gRPC, messaging), modular design principles, and observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Has practical experience with key security technologies and practices such as OAuth, TLS, encryption, zero‑trust principles, and an understanding of compliance considerations like GDPR for sensitive access data.
  • Brings familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases, IoT or hardware‑connected systems, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders while balancing short‑term pragmatism with long‑term architectural integrity.
  • Shows a proactive mindset, passion for innovation, mentoring capability, and willingness to work closely with distributed teams across time zones.
