When it comes to blocks of flats, companies or buildings that have both apartments and professional offices, we are very often forced to choose between convenience and security.

On one side there are the needs of residents, workers or patients, who must be able to access the building without difficulty, and on the other side the security requirements of building and company managers and those who share entrances and staircases with businesses.

What is the MEDIATOR system

The MEDIATOR system consists of a self-locking escape door lock (with automatic reset) and a special electric strike. 

Thanks to their combined action, every time the entrance door closes, the deadbolt automatically releases, keeping the door secure. In this state, the door can only be opened from the outside with the key or by intercom.

The lock does not need a power supply to properly lock the door; this saves a great deal of energy in keeping the building secure. Electrical operation is performed via the electric strike, which must be connected to a 12 V DC power supply and which is operated via a control device (which can be an intercom, an internal button, a card reader, a keypad or other).

MEDIATOR can also be integrated into a digital access control system and is certified for use on fire and smoke doors. Thanks to its panic function, it can be unlocked from the inside in any situation using a certified panic exit device or handle and can therefore also be used on doors located along escape routes.

MEDIATOR in multi-residential buildings

All kinds of people with very different needs live in apartment buildings. Entrance to the building is the first form of protection against unwanted guests, so it is necessary to use a burglar-proof door lock that locks properly every time, but which can be quickly unlocked from the inside by acting directly on the handle or panic bar.

In addition, these entrance doors are all different in terms of materials and design, and it is not always possible to install electrical products. MEDIATOR offers several options to suit most doors.

Many digital access control systems also offer handles and locks belonging to the same ecosystem, but these devices often lack the burglary protection that entrance doors need and are mainly designed for use on interior doors.

MEDIATOR in flat and practice buildings

It happens very often, especially in old town centers or small towns, that private flats and professional offices coexist within a single building. 

It is not always possible for the professional to send the command to open the door every time a customer rings the doorbell (e.g. if it is a doctor's surgery). In those cases it is necessary for the door to remain unlocked during the surgery's operating hours, while it must be able to lock properly during the rest of the day, especially in the evening, to ensure the safety of the residents.

With MEDIATOR this is possible by pairing any compatible timer with the system to manage openings flexibly and via time slots.
