Sustainability across the value chain
ASSA ABLOY is improving its value chain efficiency through reduction of production costs in areas such as optimization of product components and reduction of waste at every stage of the product lifecycle.
The value chain
Innovation
New products are evaluated from a life cycle perspective. Many recently developed products save energy as a result of improved insulation and intelligent control of various door opening solutions.
Sourcing
The Group’s suppliers in risk areas are evaluated from a sustainability perspective. Suppliers failing to comply with the Group’s requirements are requested to make improvements or will otherwise be phased out.
Manufacturing
The manufacture of the Group’s products should be carried out safely and with minimal environmental impact. Hazardous processes are gradually being phased out and replaced by eco-friendly alternatives.
ISO14001 Environmental Management System
All manufacturing sites with a significant environmental impact are certified to ISO14001.
Market Presence
ASSA ABLOY respects the laws and regulations governing business ethics in the countries in which it operates, and requires all partners to act in the same way.
Customers
ASSA ABLOY’s ambition is to supply high-quality products that fulfil customer needs, have a long service life and are manufactured with minimal resource consumption and environmental impact over their life cycle.
Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct forms the basis for ASSA ABLOY’s actions and behavior and is at the core of sustainability governance, providing the framework for the Group’s daily operations.
ASSA ABLOY does not tolerate bribery and corruption. To further emphasize this position, the Group launched its Anti-corruption compliance program in 2011.
Zero waste to landfill
This allows us to focus on driving waste up the hierarchy to avoid waste generation in the first place. In the EMEA division, ASSA ABLOY has 15 sites who have achieved Zero waste to landfill. To validate this claim, we appointed the internationally recognised NGO, Carbon Trust, to independently verify our Zero waste status.
“Avoiding landfill is an important first step for businesses wanting to deal more effectively with waste. Achieving this for all waste arisings is not easy, especially for a manufacturing business. ASSA ABLOY deserves to be congratulated for successfully achieving zero-waste-to-landfill in fifteen sites across Europe. The Carbon Trust's independent verification of this achievement demonstrates ASSA ABLOY's clear commitment to improving waste management and their sustainability credentials” says Darran Messem, Managing Director for Carbon Trust, Certification.
