Sustainability

With buildings generally accounting for around 40 percent of energy consumption in society, the focus on sustainability in the construction industry has increased over the past few years. We are committed to sustainable buildings and entrances, offering energy-efficient gates, high-quality materials and environmental product declarations.

ASSA ABLOY has a comprehensive range of automatic swing doors, sliding doors and revolving doors that help reduce costs and energy consumption in commercial buildings. Our doors offer the greatest value across three of the most important building segments – retail, healthcare and private commercial properties (such as offices and hotels).

Sustainability is integrated in everything we do

Energy efficient

When one door saves energy, the entire building saves energy. Doors and windows are the obvious vulnerable places when it comes to maintaining the indoor climate – they're thinner than walls and allow the weather outside to get inside when they're open. While windows tend to stay closed, doors are opened and closed several times each day for a building to function. Automatic doors are faster, smarter and more suitable for heavy foot traffic than regular doors. Automatic doors are therefore a necessity for sustainable commercial buildings, helping to minimize heat transfer, air leakage and air infiltration.

For automatic doors

  • Minimize energy loss
  • Improve the indoor climate
  • Increase daylight
  • Get control of air circulation
  • Optimize the overall energy efficiency of any building

Selected industries

  • Retail

Retail is about more than just moving things off the shelves. Your business depends on people and goods being able to move unhindered.

  • Healthcare

Keep hospitals, health centers, and pharmacies ready for anything with antibacterial door surfaces, sealed environments, and touchless entrances.

  • Hospitality

Welcoming entrances, sturdy locks and in-room safes are just the beginning of what we offer in hotel and restaurant security.

Compliance and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

ASSA ABLOY is one of a handful of corporate partners in the World Green Building Council – a responsibility we are incredibly proud of. We also have one of the world's largest collections of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), enabling decision-makers to get a transparent picture of each product's life cycle. The performance of our automatic doors around the world contributes to the environmental rating of buildings, including BREEAM, LEED, HQE, DNGB, nZEB and Greenstar. Looking for a specific EPD? See the download section on the product page.

Globally sustainable

Sustainability is one of the driving forces in our value chain. By placing ASSA ABLOY in a broader context, the Group can better understand sustainability risks and opportunities in the business. Managing them in a good way helps us grow and stay profitable. ASSA ABLOY has defined four environmental sustainability priorities that support the Group's vision and strategy and provide the framework for the goals set for each division. Want to know more about ASSA ABLOY's sustainability strategy?

Our long-term commitment to a sustainable future

To realize a sustainable future we focus on:

  • Sustainability program to 2025
  • Setting long-term science-based targets
  • Halving our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
  • Achieving net-zero no later than 2050

Now in our third program, we have set our most ambitious targets yet keep playing our part tackling the global threat of climate change. For the first time, we have a long-term climate commitment to set targets with the Science Based Targets initiative.

How our access solutions can contribute to your sustainability goals

Choosing battery powered locks removes the need for cabling into or around a door or other opening. Wire-free installation requires no drilling and uses fewer non-renewable materials.

It is less intrusive and energy-intensive than fitting wired doors which rely on a mains electricity connection. Maintenance is simpler, too: A battery change every two years or so (with typical use), nothing more.

Moving towards green buildings

We are committed to offering more sustainable door and security solutions.  Through innovation, certification support and a global commitment, we are focused on reducing the environmental impact of buildings and construction solutions.

ASSA ABLOY contribution sheets cover electronic access control solutions; doors and door closers; mechanical and electromechanical locking systems; and accessories including handles, panic devices and drop seals.
