Metropolitan Warsaw
Metropolitan in Warsaw - an office and service building, located at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, was designed by one of the greatest contemporary architects - Norman Foster.
The volume of the building is over 240,000 cubic metres, with approximately 38,000 square metres of floor space and over 6,000 square metres of built-up area. The façade of the building is a glazed wall with stones made of unique granite, so-called "razor blades" fixed perpendicularly to the planes of the façade. The patio features flamed granite flooring and in the centre of the patio is an innovative design of computer-controlled fountain jets.
Innovative energy-saving and environmentally friendly solutions were used in the building, e.g. heating and cooling of the garage rooms with air from the offices. The garage ventilation system has been used interchangeably for domestic and fire protection needs.
The Metropolitan building can be classed as one of the most technically advanced buildings in Europe (AAA-class). The three independent parts of the building have their own core, with separate communication, sanitary facilities, installations and power supply. On the ground floor there are service rooms, and in the basement there are two levels of garages, the height of the first of which allows the entry of delivery trucks and other vehicles serving the building. All rooms in the building operate with a key system based on ASSA cylinders.
