Challenge

The Wuppertal fire brigade has around 1,100 employees and members who are on duty 365 days a year. In addition to fire protection services, it also provides assistance, disaster protection and rescue services. It is responsible for covering an area of 168 km² – in an emergency, every second counts here. With its long tradition - the voluntary fire brigade was set up in 1745 with the professional fire brigade following in 1892 – Wuppertal fire brigade is one of the oldest in Germany. Today, firefighters work across three professional fire brigade sites, 16 voluntary fire brigade sites and six rescue stations. For such a large number of buildings, the task was to find a locking solution that combines high security with simple administration, is flexibly adaptable and reliably supports firefighters in their daily tasks.

The solution

Following positive experience with the system in other areas, the city of Wuppertal decided to convert all fire brigade locations to the electronic eCLIQ locking system from the IKON brand. The benefits for the organisation are clear:

  • One key for all cylinders reduces administrative effort.
  • Programming via the CLIQ Web Manager softwares is straightforward and does not cause any additional software costs.
  • Access rights can be defined individually and blocked immediately in the event of key loss.

The conversion itself also went smoothly. Since the CLIQ® principle does not require any wiring, the existing doors could be easily equipped. The power supply comes from batteries in the key, which can simply be replaced if necessary.
