Challenge

Nestled in the region between Düsseldorf, Erkrath, and Hilden, Unterbacher See is a popular recreational area with a wide range of leisure activities. Spanning around 84 hectares, the lake was created between 1926 and 1973 through gravel and sand mining and is exclusively fed by groundwater. Visitors can look forward to a 15-kilometre long network of hiking and cycling trails, a high rope course, mini-golf, barbecue areas, and playgrounds, as well as two beach pools with a total of 500 metres of sandy beach. Water sports enthusiasts can sail, surf or rent boats, while restaurants like the beach café and harbour terrace offer culinary delights. Two campsites with over 600 parking spaces offer overnight accommodation right by the water. The sailing school offers in-depth training for beginners and advanced learners alike, providing a safe introduction to the art of sailing. Sailboat and pedal boat rentals are also perfect for setting off on excursions, while private berths in the harbour guarantee a secure anchorage for boat owners. The recreation area is managed by the Zweckverband Unterbacher See association, which was founded in 1956. The aim is to promote health, sport, and landscape conservation, supported by a clear organisational structure that includes divisions such as administration, technology and workshops, landscape maintenance, and water sports operations. The requirements for a new electronic master key system for buildings and facilities were clearly formulated: The access authorisations for employees and service providers had to be as simple as possible to manage. Furthermore, the system had to be durable and require as little maintenance as possible. 

Solution

The association opted for the IKON eCLIQ electronic locking system - a reliable and future-proof solution for modern access management. The system boasts impressively simple handling and flexible management: Power supply and communication with the locking cylinder take place directly via the key, there is no need to change the cylinder’s batteries. This is an especially great advantage in large or difficult-to-access installations. Its robust design also makes eCLIQ well suited for use in challenging environmental conditions such as high humidity or fluctuating temperatures in the summer or winter. Each key has an integrated chip, making it unique and individually programmable. Lost keys can be rapidly deactivated, new authorisations can be flexibly assigned or activated for a short time – for users such as cleaning staff, technicians, or external service providers. The system is managed via the CLIQ® Local Manager, which enables convenient control of access rights close to the site. The introduction of eCLIQ by Gölzner GmbH has significantly enhanced the security infrastructure of the Zweckverband Erholungsgebiet Unterbacher See association, while considerably reducing the administrative workload.
