The challenge

The new Cyber Valley I building represents an important milestone for the AI research site in Tübingen and brings together scientists from the Tübingen AI Centre, the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and other members of the Cyber Valley Innovation Campus in one place. The five-storey building with an area of around 6,400 square metres offers flexible working and research conditions. Laboratories, offices, lecture halls, event spaces and open working landscapes interact and promote interdisciplinary cooperation between the institutions involved. The large number of research groups, start-ups, students and guests as well as sensitive laboratory areas create complex requirements for building security. The spatial and functional relationships are demanding, and it must be clear who is allowed to enter which areas at all times. A reliable and quickly adaptable locking system is therefore a key requirement for secure and smooth operation in an environment characterised by dynamic research processes.

Solution

The University of Tübingen has been relying on an electronic VERSO CLIQ master key system since 2008, which has proven to be extremely reliable over the years. The close support and expert advice provided by Zweygart has helped grow a trusting and successful partnership during this time. A total of around 11,000 double, half, knob and locking lever cylinders as well as padlocks were installed. These many years of positive experience led to the new Cyber Valley I building also being equipped with IKON-branded CLIQ technology. The system combines robust mechanical security with modern microelectronics and an intelligent software solution that enables fast and precise management of access authorisations. With CLIQ, authorisations can be assigned, changed or revoked easily at any time. Security is fully maintained in the event of key loss, as the locking cylinder can be simply reprogrammed and no costly replacement of the system is necessary. This flexibility is particularly valuable in a research environment where teams grow, external partners enter and exit, and sensitive areas need to be reliably protected.
