Challenge

The University Medical Centre of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is the only medical institution for supramaximal care in Rhineland-Palatinate and an internationally approved location for science and research. It combines over 60 clinics, institutes, and departments that collaborate across disciplines and both inpatient and outpatient treatment to approximately 403,000 patients each year. In Mainz, highly specialised patient care, research and teaching form an indivisible whole. Approximately 3,700 students of human and dental medicine and around 590 trainees in various healthcare professions, commercial and technical fields earn their qualifications here.

With around 9,000 employees, the University Medical Center of Mainz is also one of the largest employers in the region and is an important driver for growth and innovation. The University Medical Center was looking for a new flexible and, above all, uniform electronic locking solution for the buildings on the campus site, including day clinics, institutes, wards, lecture halls, outpatient clinics, and offices. It had to meet the latest security standards and be suitable for use in all door and installation situations.

Solution

The University Medical Center decided on the eCLIQ digital master key system from the IKON brand, which offers maximum flexibility with modern master key system management. The uncomplicated and reliable solution sets itself apart with its robust, durable and secure components. For example, the entire cylinder spectrum of more than 60 variants is suitable for environments such as laboratories via ATEX certification. The cylinders have no knobs, making them particularly well suited for hospital environments where hospital beds roll through corridors and doors - and sometimes get stuck on the knob.

Management is done using the CLIQ® Web Manager, a scalable and flexible platform that is especially good for large systems or large-scale sites like a campus. It was also crucial for the system to be able to change access authorisations easily and flexibly by issuing access rights. Lost keys are simply deactivated. Authorisations with time and room restrictions are also possible. For instance, technicians can be issued a single authorisation for a specific task or cleaners can be granted access at specific times.
