Challenge
As one of the most important trade fair companies in the world, Messe Berlin hosts international trade fairs, congresses and events. Every year, millions of visitors as well as exhibitors and organisers from all over the world come to the site in the heart of the capital. With leading trade fairs such as ITB, InnoTrans, Fruit Logistica and Grüne Woche, as well as numerous in-house and guest events, the venue places the highest demands on organisation security and flexibility. The large number of user groups – from employees to exhibitors and service providers to temporary event participants – as well as changing spatial and functional relationships require a locking system that clearly regulates who is granted access to which areas at any time. At the same time, it needs to be rapidly adaptable, reliable, and economical to ensure smooth event operations.
Solution
Since 2003, Messe Berlin has been relying on an IKON-branded mechatronic VERSO® CLIQ master key system. Today, around 11,500 cylinders and padlocks in a wide variety of versions are in use - on doors and gates as well as on furniture and electric charging stations. The system combines robust mechanical security with modern microelectronics and powerful software for central management of access rights. A major advantage is the flexible assignment, modification and time limitation of authorisations. Security is maintained in the event of key loss, as the affected key can be simply deprogrammed and costly replacement of the system is no longer necessary. The battery integrated in the key also enables low-maintenance operation without regular battery changes on the cylinders.
The system is managed via the CLIQ® Web Manager as well as 29 wall programming devices distributed across the site and a new updater, where key holders can update their authorisations independently. For more than two decades, CLIQ® technology has reliably met the high security and flexibility requirements of one of Europe’s largest and most dynamic event venues.
