Challenge

With 1,475 full inpatient hospital beds and 24 semi-inpatient hospital beds and 4,274 employees in the hospital (almost 5,000 incl. subsidiaries), Braunschweig hospital is one of the largest employers in the region. As a university-level hospital, it serves the Braunschweig region with around 1.2 million inhabitants.

With 21 clinics, 10 independent clinical departments and 7 institutes, almost the entire field of medicine is covered. More than 65,000 patients are hospitalised and around 200,000 outpatients are treated every year. An efficient access control system was sought for the newly built approximately 7,000 sqm administration building at the Salzdahlumer Straße site, which houses, among other things, the centre for paediatric and youth medicine.

Solution

After considering and assessing the requirements, the hospital decided on the effeff SCALA access control solution, which was installed by ASSA ABLOY partner BELL System. SCALA is a flexible system that grows with customers’ needs.

The system can be extended almost as much as required and adapts continuously. SCALA enables a system structure integrated into a network and offers the full range of functions of an access control solution, such as the configuration of doors, groups or schedules or a timer. In this way, the structure grows with the needs of the hospital and also fulfils special requirements.
