Interxion relies on a combined security solution for data centres

Interxion building

Interxion relies on ASSA ABLOY’s expertise to secure its data centres

  • Premises: data centres FRA15 and FRA16 by Interxion, Frankfurt
  • Category: data centre
  • Size: 5,000 to 10,000 m2 per building
  • ASSA ABLOY components: security locks, escape route technology and escape door locking devices, door closers and a mechanical locking system

Challenge:

Interxion: A Digital Realty Company is a leading provider of carrier and cloud-neutral data centre services in EMEA. With more than 700 connectivity providers in over 100 data centres in 13 European countries, Interxion has created communities for cloud, content and connectivity. The company provides its customers – including leading European companies and global players – with state-of-the-art services for cooling, electricity, security and much more. Among other things, the largest European Internet node DE-CIX is located in Frankfurt and is also at home at Interxion. The company in the main metropolis has been a service provider for Europe’s leading companies and global players for years. More than 700 carriers, Internet providers and providers of CDNs (Content Delivery Network) are connected via the Digital Business Park Frankfurt. Since demand is constantly increasing, Interxion is continuously expanding its capacities, including by building new data centres. There are already 14 Interxion data centres on the Ostend campus in Frankfurt. With FRA15 and FRA16, two further data centres are being built on Hanauer Landstraße. FRA15, for example, offers a total data centre area of 9,600 m2, which is spread over several floors. Physical security of the IT infrastructure is central to Interxion. An efficient, burglary-proof access control system was therefore sought for the new buildings. External and internal access to the individual leased areas is necessary. These must be secured against unauthorised access, but at the same time enable safe escape.

Solutions:

After intensive considerations, the data centre service provider decided to combine secure escape routes (safety) with high protection against forced entry (security). Secure escape routes enable escape route terminals on doors and suitable escape door strikes as locking elements. The escape route control system is located in the protected area to prevent tampering. Handle-controlled security locks have been installed to ensure protection against forced entry. They lock automatically after the door is closed. The combination of safety and security is a holistic security solution that can be flexibly adapted to the needs of customers. As a result, the security measures can be designed so that customers operating worldwide can find the desired conditions for their requirements at any time.
