Challenge:

G.RAU has been a global player in metal processing for decades. The company started out in 1877 as a supplier to the Pforzheim jewellery industry. Today, G.RAU manufactures strips, tubes and wires for a wide range of applications from a range of over 200 different metals and metal alloys. The company also produces precision parts and complex assemblies from these preliminary products. Customers include well-known companies in the automotive supply industry, electronics and electrical engineering as well as medical technology.

Mechanical locking systems are installed at the company’s existing three plants. A number of external doors are equipped with offline knob cylinders, but these are not ideal. Changes to authorisations and battery replacements require the cylinders to be accessed manually and reprogrammed, for example. A more convenient locking solution was therefore planned to be installed in the building of the new plant 4 – Am hohen Markstein 4 in Pforzheim.

Solution:

With eCLIQ, G.RAU has selected a locking system that is ideally suited for industrial companies. It is based on wireless locking cylinders and electronic keys. Employees use wall programming devices for the revalidation function and for authorisation updates. This eliminates the need to go to the cylinder to change authorisations and significantly reduces the risk of losing keys. Power is also supplied via batteries in the key and not in the cylinder – saving time and ways.

RFID transponders can be integrated into the keys. Another important criterion when selecting eCLIQ, as the company already uses RFID transponders for other systems. The wide range of cylinder types is also considered as an advantage, since it will allow in future not only a wide variety of doors, but also lockers and furniture or switchable locks, such as those in machines, to be integrated into the system. With the CLIQ® Web Manager access authorisations can be quickly and easily assigned, deleted or changed online as requested.
