Risk of burglary highest in Skåne
E24 Näringsliv, June 26, 2008
There are large geographical differences in the risk of burglary, according to statistics from Statistics Sweden (SCB), The national council for crime prevention (Brå), compiled by the security firm ASSA. House owners are almost five times more likely to be victims of burglary in the regions of Blekinge, Skåne, Kronobergs and Halland compared to Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland. Stefan Bengtsson, head of the criminal intelligence service in Helsingborg, says that most burglars that are caught in Skåne are habitual criminals, but the region is also vulnerable due to its closeness to the rest of Europe. He thinks that residents in Skåne should cooperate with neighbours and inspect all locks.
