Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future wins Sir Banister Fletcher Award in 2007
The Author’s Club in Mayfair, London presented its 54th annual Sir Banister Fletcher Award for the most deserving book on art or architecture to Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future.
The book, part of a comprehensive Finnish-American research and exhibition project, started its international tour in 2006 in Helsinki, Finland, where it marked the 50th anniversary of the Museum of Finnish Architecture.
The winning book, Eero Saarinen: Shaping the Future, studies the life of the Finnish-American architect and product designer, famous for his simple, sweeping, arching structural curves.
Lavishly illustrated, this major study shows how Saarinen gave his structures an expressive dimension and helped introduce modern architecture to the mainstream American practice. In his search for a richer and more varied modern architecture, Saarinen become one of the most prolific and controversial practitioners of his time.
