Our heritage

We are part of the ASSA ABLOY Group. Formed in 1994 when Swedish brand ASSA merged with Finnish brand Abloy, the group has since gone from strength to strength - becoming the global leader in access solutions.

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems became a distinct division of the group in 2006, building on a strong - and long - history of expertise in entrance automation. Over the years, we have welcomed some of the world’s best-known brands to our family. Together, we set the standard across our industry for safety, security, and convenience.

The Besam story

Besam was established in 1962 with the development of automatic doors for the healthcare sector. In 1970 the business expanded with sliding door solutions and in 1985 included a portfolio of revolving doors. As the need for automatic doors grew in industries like transportation and retail, Besam expanded to several markets worldwide.

Besam joined ASSA ABLOY in 2002. The merge of products and services under one brand results from our determination to set new standards in customer experience. For you this means we have gathered the expertise and experience and still offer superior automatic pedestrian doors. To complement your automatic doors, we also offer a broad range of industrial-, commercial-, high-performance- and vertical-lifting fabric doors,as well as loading dock equipment and service.

The Megadoor story

The first Megadoor vertical lifting fabric door was developed in 1973 as a kiln door for the forestry industry, where extra-large doors with good insulation were especially needed. Besides offering doors that fulfill the need for size, insulations and rapid opening, in 1977 Megadoor were also able to deliver large doors with different types of door panels. The company quickly expanded into other segments with exceptional access needs, such as aviation, shipyard, mining and waste and recycling.

In 2012 Cardo, the parent company of both Megadoor and Crawford was acquired by ASSA ABLOY Group. Determined to set new standards in customer experience, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems gather all products, services and people under one brand. For you this means we have gathered the expertise and experience and still offer superior Megadoor vertical-lifting fabric doors as well as industrial doors and loading dock equipment. To complement your Megadoors, we also offer a broad range of automatic pedestrian- and high-performance doors.
