Electronically controlled locks – an introduction to our range

Electronically controlled locks are an effective way for commercial entities to boost their security and therefore peace of mind.

At ASSA ABLOY, we offer a wide range of solutions, each meeting a particular set of needs. Here’s an introduction to each of them, so you can make the right choice for your building.

Code locks

A code lock is an electromechanical lock that is requires users to enter a code to gain access. Their main purpose is to restrict who can enter through a door – for example, to stop customers accessing staff-only areas in a shop.

There are three main types of code lock: mechanical push button, battery-operated digital locks, and keypads.

Our range includes standalone systems and integrated solutions to fit into larger access control systems.

Electric strikes

An electric strike is electronically controlled by a solenoid that temporarily releases the jaw, allowing the door to be opened.

Within our range are high-security, mortice, and rim-mounted options, which can be used for both inward- and outward-opening doors.

ASSA CLIQ Remote

Our award-winning CLIQ Remote security system combines a cutting-edge mechanical platform with advanced electronic functions.

Designed to simplify access to single sites, but more specifically businesses spread over multiple locations, this is an electromechanical lock designed for larger buildings and estates.

Electromagnetic locks

Electromagnetic locks are made up of two components: an electromagnet and an armature plate. A strong magnetic flux is created when the armature plate is in contact with the energised electromagnet, which locks the two parts together.

Easy to retrofit, our range features products for both internal and external direct pull devices with robust and sleek finishes.

Electric solenoid bolts

Solenoid bolts are electrically driven into a strike to prevent the door from opening.

They are often used in applications where an electric strike is impractical – for example, on swing-through or double-action doors.

Electric mortice locks

We offer two types of electric mortice locks: motor locks, where an electric motor opens or closes the lock bolt, and electric handle-controlled locks, where the lock can also be overridden for escape with a handle. Both are installed into a pocket cut into the door leaf and need a connection to a power supply.

They are mainly used in high-security, high-traffic areas where reliability and security are key considerations.

Speciality locking solutions

Our collection of electornic locks includes four types of speciality electric locking solutions, gate locks, electric bolts and strikes, cabinet locks, and dual-action electromechanical and electromagnetic.

The range features both internal and external devices, all with a different intended use.

Activation devices and power supplies

All electric locking devices require a power supply and the appropriate accessories to function.

Our accessories range includes key items to signal locks to operate and our three types of power supplies all have different functions and capabilities.

When choosing between a standard mortice lock and more advanced options, it makes sense to opt for the one that utilises the best of modern technology – and that’s why an electronically controlled lock is often the best option. Explore our full range here.
