Position: Data Protection Counsel
Location: Chennai, India (Based in the HID office)

Role Overview: Join ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions as a Data Protection Counsel and play a key role in supporting our global privacy and data protection framework. In this role, you will work closely with the Data Protection Officer to support on Data Protection Agreements (DPAs) and related privacy provisions across the business. You will function as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, supporting privacy compliance both in commercial context, where we function as data processors, and operational context where we function as a data controller. You also contribute to maintaining Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) and provide support on Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), and Privacy Notices as needed.
This role offers firsthand legal privacy experience in a complex, international environment, and the opportunity to contribute to a strong privacy culture across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Support the DPO and Legal team in implementing and maintaining ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions’ global privacy program.
- Advise the business and review Data Protection Agreements (DPAs) and privacy related contractual clauses and requirements with customers, partners, and vendors.
- Create, maintain, and update Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders.
- Provide support on Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), and Privacy Notices.
- Promote a privacy‑first mindset, guiding stakeholders on practical privacy solutions.
- Support internal privacy projects, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
Skills
- Good working knowledge of GDPR and global data protection requirements.
- Understanding of controller and processor roles in B2B and SaaS environments.
- Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
- Strong interest in IT, SaaS, and the use of AI technologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functions and countries.
- High integrity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Qualifications
- Experience working with Data Protection Agreements (DPAs), including reviewing, revising, and supporting negotiations under guidance where appropriate.
- Experience creating, maintaining, or contributing to Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) in a multinational setting.
- Ability to support work on Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), and Privacy Notices as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in law or related field combining technology and data protection.
- CIPP or equivalent privacy certification preferred, but not mandatory.
- Strong English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Legally eligible to work in India.
