eCLIQ is so easy to install. Simply remove the mechanical cylinder and slot in an eCLIQ cylinder in its place.

Challenge

The Mitsubishi Electric HALLE can look back on an impressive history since its opening in 1971: Initially named the PHILIPSHALLE, it has developed over five decades into one of the most versatile venues in Germany. With 3,300 square metres of interior space, telescopic main and side grandstands, and a flexible curtain divider system, it meets the highest standards for a modern multifunctional hall. Depending on the setup, the venue can accommodate up to 7,500 visitors for concerts, TV productions, sports events, trade fairs, or business events.

Operator D.LIVE faced a challenge very familiar to the experts at ASSA ABLOY: implementing an access management system which meets the constantly changing requirements of all the venue’s users.

Key requirements

  • A modern solution to the problem of lost keys which became a recurring issue for their mechanical locking system
  • Secure access management which combines increased convenience with less administrative effort
  • Flexible access control able to adapt to the needs of a diverse user-group: guests, staff, customers, and service providers

Solution

Based on their positive experiences at Düsseldorf’s MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA , venue operator D.LIVE chose ASSA ABLOY’s eCLIQ smart key system as the central element of their new security architecture. This fully electronic implementation of CLIQ access technology meets all the requirements of a modern, digital solution – and brings a high level of flexibility to daily operations.

Access points across the entire hall were equipped with wire-free eCLIQ devices. Almost 400 locking cylinders were installed, including double-, half- and knob-cylinders, as well as eCLIQ padlocks. The system is supported by the issuing of 60 eCLIQ Connect keys, which both power the cylinders at the door and ensure secure data communication between smart key and system. No separate cylinder batteries are required. For employees, this smart key system means less effort, more security, and uncomplicated handling.

Another significant management advantage is the CLIQ Web Manager. The web-based management software enables intuitive, location-independent control of all access authorizations. Adjustments to the access privileges of service providers or event teams are made rapidly. For workflow flexibility, venue employees load personal authorization profiles onto their smart keys via wall programming devices. This is also a significant benefit in terms of process security, especially as event operations change frequently.
