In 2007, ASSA ABLOY implemented its first sustainability plan to integrate sustainable development into its daily operations, he said the group is committed to achieving net-zero emissions no later than 2050.


Leading the industry towards a sustainable future

By 2020, the Group is committed to achieving sustainable development and has set science-based carbon reduction targets.  To achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, it plans to reduce its carbon emissions by half (scopes 1 and 2) by 2030. The goal is to limit global warming to 1.5°C. " Our industry has a responsibility to mitigate climate change, protect our employees' health and safety, and lead the way toward a more sustainable future, " said Martin Poxton.

ASSA ABLOY works on several projects to reduce energy consumption in the product production process, as well as partnering with supply chain partners to reduce carbon footprints. "Our sustainable development plan has resulted in remarkable results," said Martin Poxton. " Last year, the group reduced its carbon emissions by 23%, waste by 25%, and water intensity by 51%, compared with the baseline of 2019. The result is the result of the collective efforts of the entire group."

Companies focus on ESG performance

Global climate change is becoming increasingly serious. The world's governments and business circles have begun to focus on how to respond. In the last few years, green buildings have become a general trend, bringing opportunities to ASSA ABLOY. A general manager of the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan markets group, Irene Yip, explained that energy conservation and emission reduction are continuing to be in high demand in construction projects, and they hope to improve ESG performance in the future. She added that the market’s demand for sustainable products and solutions is continuing to increase in recent years.


In addition to providing different ironmongery products and door access control solutions, ASSA ABLOY also relies on its rich experience to assist major customers in implementing green building principles. As an example of a door access management system, an automatic door system can reduce air-conditioning leakage, thus reducing electricity consumption, and improving energy efficiency. She said that currently more than 60% of the group's products contain environmentally friendly elements, and in the future, it will continue to invest resources in developing more sustainable products to meet market demand.
