Towards local ecological awareness

The environment is a hot topic all over the world. ASSA ABLOY Italy is promoting ecological awareness among its employees and has introduced major changes.

Jader Petrucci, manager for research, development and innovation at ASSA ABLOY Italy, is proud to share the environmental approach introduced by Yvan Haddad, market region manager.

ASSA ABLOY Italy“We undertook several initiatives to reduce the environmental impact in manufacturing,” Jader says.

“For instance, regarding the surface finishing of our products, ASSA ABLOY Italy complied in advance with the EU directive to improve environmental, health and safety aspects of the surface treatment processes. In addition, our suppliers must certify that they comply with these regulations. Last but not least, we are working to reduce packaging materials, using environmentally friendly solutions for packaging our products.”

Another smart change the Italian team has made is the introduction of “green cars.” This year they have started to replace older diesel cars with hybrid vehicles.

The last big change involves the ASSA ABLOY Italy site in San Giovanni – Bologna, which will move next year. The new building is built according to the latest sustainability designs and renewable energy criteria by architects specializing in “green building.” The new building, including offices and a warehouse, will reduce resource consumption by using environmentally friendly materials and construction practices in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste, and also by recycling water and energy. Such a low-impact building will permit significantly lower operating costs, thanks to ecologically effective systems. All these features will result in a more efficient and cost-saving building, a healthier workplace and a more comfortable environment for the employees.

“I believe that all of us can make a small contribution to achieve what will hopefully be a healthier and cleaner world, “ says Yvan Haddad.
