Donations from Besam employees assist local food bank

Last year, employees who work for Besam in Toronto, Canada, collected more than 200 lbs (90 kg) of food for the Georgetown Bread Basket, a local charity that helps to provide food for those in need.

Started in November 1996, the Georgetown Bread Basket was incorporated as a registered charity with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency in July 1997. Headed by a volunteer board of up to 12 directors who meet monthly to plan operations and food drives, the Georgetown Bread Basket aims to feed the hungry in Georgetown, Ontario. All board members work regularly at the food bank facility alongside many community volunteers. Together they put in more than 3,000 hours of volunteer time per year.

The Georgetown Bread Basket was very low on supplies and Besam staff helped to fill its shelves until the next major community food drive. There is always a need for everyday items, but last fall there was an acute shortage of items for school children; such as drink boxes, peanut-free snacks and cookies. Thanks to the efforts of the Besam staff, the Georgetown Bread Basket was able to help quite a few families get by until Thanksgiving.
