Sales star Jonah Schneider came to the company with no formal sales background, just valuable experience as a personal trainer that has served him well. He has captured the Top Sales Award from 2012 through 2014.
“When I joined ASSA ABLOY I was very green. I remember being at my first sales conference and it felt like everyone was speaking a foreign language.
Every day, I learned new things about our products. That knowledge made me feel more confident in front of clients. It’s about evolving and strengthening your weaknesses.
I know a lot of people have negative connotations about ‘salesey’ sales reps. I try to be more of a consultant to my customers rather than coming in with a rehearsed pitch. I let my customer tell me what they need and then I fill in the blanks on what we can do to help.
I think a great sales person has to be trustworthy first and foremost. If you have a great pitch, if they don’t trust you it doesn’t matter, so being able to develop the relationship is what’s most important.
Finding the perfect solution for a customer is something that really makes your day as a sales rep. They have a void and you figure out a way to fill that and to make their general operations run much more smoothly.
What I enjoy most about my job is the different people you meet on a daily basis, and not the set structure of a 9-5 job. It’s a different situation, a different application every day, and I enjoy that diversity.
My personal goals are to be as successful as I possibly can while spending time with my family and finding that balance between work life and family life.
I dreamed of playing sports when I grew up but, to this day, I don’t have any sports trophies. But now I have a trophy case full of sales awards. This is my career and I love it.”
