HID Global, a part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, is now paving the way for broader distribution of ASSA ABLOY's Seos mobile authentication technology by offering licensing to external developers of solutions for smart devices such as phones, tablets, watches and wearables.

The Seos Mobile Access Platform, which is adapted to several different interfaces, including NFC and Bluetooth, contains features that allow all types of smart devices such as phones and tablets, as well as watches and other wearables, to serve as secure certificates for access to both physical and digital environments.

By using a protocol that does not transmit any unique information about the user to non-approved receivers, Seos provides heightened privacy protection while making it difficult to track users by constantly updating and replacing the certificates’ unique identification numbers. The technology is now the foundation for mobile key applications in several leading hotels and is also used for solutions at universities, businesses and residences.

“Today people have their smartphones with them wherever they go. We want to make it easier for them to gain access everywhere, securely and with heightened privacy protection, from their homes to their workplaces, with just a single device,” says Gustav Broman, marketing director mobile access at ASSA ABLOY. “Seos develops opportunities for people to use their mobile devices to simplify life.”

In order to promote development of new interoperable, secure and useful applications, Seos is now being made available through licensing to allow developers to use the technology platform in their own products and solutions. Potential stakeholders include companies in the construction and building industry, real estate companies, mobile operators and handset manufacturers.

“Licensing is valid worldwide and is a strategic initiative. Seos works outside ASSA ABLOY’s ecosystem of other solutions and is designed with security as the first priority, so that users and developers can fully rely on and benefit from the opportunities offered. It is also a revolutionary solution in the sense that it does not compromise user privacy to allow for ease of use or security,” concludes Gustav Broman.
