Challenge
The ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Cubes in the heart of the RWTH Aachen University campus house a number of professorships and research areas with a focus on information and communication technology under one roof. These include research areas like man-machine interactions or virtual and augmented reality, that will make our everyday lives easier in a high-tech society and bring about fundamental changes to the way we live. The outer façade made from aluminium profiles is much more than just an elegant design - each profile represents a number, joining together to form a binary code. This code can be decrypted with a special app to reveal the basic principles of electrical engineering and quotations from great thinkers.
Modern public buildings like the ICT Cubes need intelligent and sustainable solutions in the fields of building security, fire protection and escape route technology.
Solution
Around 300 VERSO CLIQ cylinders are installed over six floors. The individual programming enables each institute to assign keys and locking authorisations independently for their own rooms. Lost keys also pose no threat to the security of the building, as the authorisation can be withdrawn.
The external doors lock reliably thanks to effeff 509x motorised locks and, in combination with 720-40 escape door controls, ensure that the escape routes can be used safely in panic situations. The system can be connected to the fire alarm system to ensure that the doors are already released in the event of an emergency, or the doors can be opened using the separate 1384 operating elements. The DC700 hold-open devices are also connected to the fire alarm system and reliably seal the doors against smoke and fire.
