Automatic doors for customers who want to “go green”

Reduced energy costs are one of the most effective selling points for automatic doors from ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems.

While all customers are interested in saving money, they are also increasingly concerned about the impact of their product choices on the environment. Automatic doors stay closed when they’re not in use, keeping cooled or warmed air inside the building.

Karen Maslow, vice president of marketing for ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems’ North American sales operations, says interest in “green” energy-efficient products is growing for several reasons.

“There is an increasing social consciousness and concern about reducing energy consumption,” Karen says. “In addition, governmental regulations are mandating that products comply with certain requirements for recycled content. As a result, architects and contractors are always looking for solutions that are more environmentally friendly.”

Though all the automatic doors in ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems’ product portfolio can help lower energy use in climate controlled buildings, its Besam revolving door line is the top performer because of its ability to provide a constant barrier between the interior and exterior environments.

A specially designed calculation tool allows customers to compare their projected energy costs with and without a revolving door entrance. Depending on the local climate and other variables such as the age of the building and the type of ventilation system employed, the revolving door can pay for itself in as little as two years. Growing interest in revolving doors as a “green” solution has prompted a planned upgrade of the calculation tool this year. Initiatives are also under way to better highlight the environmental benefits of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems products in sales materials and exhibitions.
