There’s no better place than Mobile World Congress (MWC) to show how ASSA ABLOY is leveraging the global trends of connectivity and mobility to create the next generation of intelligent locks and security solutions. With more than 85,000 visitors and hundreds of exhibiting companies, MWC – held in Barcelona, Spain between February 24 and 27, 2014 – is the world’s biggest information and communications technology (ICT) trade event.

“We only have to look around to see how fast everything is becoming connected and going mobile,” says Magnus Malmström, Product Marketing, Mobile Access. “For ASSA ABLOY, applying these concepts to our portfolio creates enormous possibilities – and MWC is a great forum to show off some of these opportunities to new audiences.”

Located in Hall 3 as part of the GSMA Connected City experience, which presented new ways of applying connectivity to improve urban life, ASSA ABLOY’s demonstrations at MWC were structured around a ‘day in the life’ for a city dweller. ASSA ABLOY has developed the Seos ecosystem to make this possible. The Seos ecosystem consists of interoperable electromechanical locks and readers and mobile phone applications.

Imagine leaving home in the morning and simply touching your smartphone screen against the door to lock it instantly and securely. You use the same easy method to start your car, and once at work, to gain access to a secure area or computer. And if you’re travelling, don’t worry about a time consuming check-in process or losing your hotel key – it was downloaded as a digital key to your smartphone before arriving at the hotel.

Visitors to ASSA ABLOY’s stand were left in no doubt that, thanks to the company’s commitment to constant innovation – as proven by Forbes’ ranking of ASSA ABLOY as the world’s 78th most innovative company in 2013 – these exciting possibilities are just around the corner.

Malmström says the response was overwhelmingly positive. He explains that potential mobility partners and customers showed keen interest in how ASSA ABLOY’s demonstrations can make everyday business processes more secure and convenient – and emphasizes that MWC is a unique platform to develop business in previously unexplored areas.

“This is a true cross-industry event that brings together companies from a wide range of sectors,” he says. “It’s clear that connectivity and mobility are global trends impacting every business, and we’ve done an excellent job of positioning ASSA ABLOY as a strong innovator and trusted partner in this fast-changing marketplace.”
