ASSA ABLOY delivers new master-key system to hospital in Hong Kong

ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong Ltd. has delivered the ASSA dp master-key system to Hong Kong’s newest crowning glory: a brand-new, ultra-modern hospital opening in a few months.

Hong Kong’s government decided in 2009 to build a hospital in the city of Tung Chung to meet the needs of the growing local population. Today, three years later, construction is almost complete. The new North Lantau Hospital is seven stories high and encompasses 160 inpatient beds, 20 outpatient beds, an emergency ward, specialist clinics and much more. It also has a huge number of doors – and many of them will feature ASSA’s high-security cylinders, which are a part of the ASSA dp master-key system.

For ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong Ltd., ASSA’s sales channel in this part of the world, the project can be viewed as the company’s breakthrough on the hospital market, which demands extra high reliability and security.

“The ASSA dp master-key system is perfect for this type of building,” says Petrus Ruuth, area sales manager at ASSA. “Hospitals have a wide array of door types that require different levels of security. The dp system manages this hierarchy and is still easy to use. And that’s just what’s needed here.”

This is not the first time ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong Ltd. has worked with the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) – the Hong Kong government’s unit in charge of developing and maintaining government-owned properties. ASSA cylinders were used in the new government offices when they were built a few years ago. But the competition for the hospital project was keen. The region is home to several very strong players who often cross swords with ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong Ltd.

“ArchSD chose us again because we have high-quality products and good service,” says Jack Cheung, division manager for commercial projects at ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong Ltd. “And also because we were able to offer a more extensive and complex solution than our competitors.”
