iCLASS lays award foundation

HID Global’s iCLASS contactless smart card technology was a key component in helping US Bank’s PayID card program win the 2010 Paybefore Award for Most Innovative Program.

The iCLASS-enabled PayID uses a single, all-purpose card to provide contactless physical access to secure US Bank facilities, along with contactless payments and traditional magnetic strip purchases.

Paybefore is the leading provider of information to the prepaid and stored value card industry and its awards recognize excellence in the field worldwide.

Mark Scaparro, senior vice president of sales and marketing Identification Solutions (IDS) at HID Global, says: “HID Global is proud to have been selected by US Bank to work with other industry-leading payment companies in achieving the Paybefore Award.

“HID Global sees a growing demand for converged solutions, which combine access control with payment, vending or automatic fare collection (AFC). As such, we are continuing to forge innovation through additional pilots and deployments with higher education, government, healthcare and corporate accounts as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing customer value.”

Dominic Venturo, chief innovation officer of Retail Payment Solutions for US Bank, says: “As the first card issuer in the United States to pilot the converged PayID card, US Bank is thankful to HID Global and our other partners on this program for their technological expertise and commitment to helping us deliver a convenient, user-friendly solution for our cardholders.”
