No more coins with SMS-operated lock /Global/Press-and-News/News/2009/coincode-524x224.jpg ASSA’s SMS-operated lock CoinCode, the first of its kind in the world, is perfect for rapid, convenient payment of small amounts. “We see major opportunities for the SMS lock to simplify people’s lives in many different environments,” says Karl Holm, product manager for CoinCode at ASSA AB. “CoinCode is suitable for use with almost any machine that otherwise uses coins – public restrooms, laundromats, campsite showers, photo booths, vending machines and so on.” Any terminal equipped with CoinCode has an individual ID number displayed. The user sends a text message containing that code number to the payment center. A text message comes in reply with a five-digit single-use code. Enter the code and the door opens. “The lock is easy for the customer to use and also provides increased security for the owner,” Karl says. “Avoiding all handling of money also prevents theft and vandalism, and the machine does not have to be emptied.” CoinCode has been awarded the Swedish telecom industry’s Cut the Wire Award in the Best Security category in competition with 20 other companies.
