Distributor Sales Consultant

Position Summary:
Primarily responsible for calling on distributors to promote the sale of ASSA ABLOY products, solutions, and services.
Organizational Relationships:
This position reports to the Director/Principal of Sales     
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and close profitable sales revenue

  • Actively solicit, follow-up, and negotiate all quote opportunities

  • Manage distributor buying programs

  • Actively promote distributor promotions and programs to secure discretionary sales revenue

  • Work closely with distributors to ensure that they quote all ASSA ABLOY specifications

  • Conduct regularly scheduled distributor business reviews

  • Plan, coordinate, & conduct distributor product/solution training sessions

  • Actively promote the sale & support of all DSS brands

  • Coordinate the resolution of product & field service issues

  • Manage brand shelf space at distributor accounts

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) processing with DSS field Sales Administration personnel

  • Direct distributor personnel to appropriate ASSA ABLOY websites for collateral material

  • Effectively communicate all ASSA ABLOY policies, procedures, etc. to distributor personnel

  • Collaborate with DSS Architectural Consultants regarding specification strategy

  • Document product quality issues with operating companies

  • Conduct joint sales calls with DSS teammates

  • Conduct joint sales calls with distributor personnel

  • Record all sales activities in SalesPoint

  • Assist the Director/Principal of Sales with sales forecasting

  • Coordinate DSS management travel with distributors

  • Generate project specification leads from distributors and general contractors

  • Effectively manage expense budget

  • Promote ASSA ABLOY products & services with general contractors and design/build firms as required

  • Support BIM and Lean Distribution efforts as required

  • Participate in local industry professional organizations (DHI, ALOA, etc.)



  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school diploma/GED required

  • Strong relationship management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team selling environment

  • Self-starter, able to work from home

  • Able to travel on a weekly/monthly basis to meet with customers, attend training programs, etc.

  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience working in the distribution channel of the door & hardware industry preferred

  • Multi-line sales experience preferred

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. of sample & display materials for sales presentations
